Taping Sheetrock

The effectiveness of drywall taping might surprise you. A cost-effective way to mend any small tears or gaps in your sheetrock is by using tape. In addition to simplifying repairs, drywall repair tape shields surfaces from future damage.

Gaps between the plasterboard surface and the edges of the wall are a common problem in drywall projects. This generally happens because of an uneven foundation brought on by plasterboard installation at an angle. It might even have resulted from improperly installed or uninstalled shims.

Filling in these gaps with plasterboard tape will give you a smooth, even surface that won't be easily damaged. If you intend to add wallpaper to the space, it will also give the walls sturdy support, helping to prevent the need for sagging.

The Drywall Taping Process

Tape is often used to fix gypsum panel tears. This is so that the tear can be fixed by applying the tape to the entire panel and adding seam allowances to each side. Based on how much damage there is, various techniques can be used to patch the torn seams.

The easiest method entails covering the damaged region with tape and sewing around the borders to create a waterproof barrier that will prevent moisture from entering. Professionals use this method to fix the area if the panel is intact and there are minimal tears.

A more challenging technique is taping sheetrock and drywall panels as the adhesive dries. This method is often used to produce a uniform coating that will seal the corners without excessive strain. To give your wall a neat finish after the adhesive drywall tape has dried, we scrape off any excess and lightly brush in the drywall compound.

We will use all the necessary equipment to ensure the paper tape and joint compound have the same thickness. To cut the paper tape to the correct length, we use the saw's blade to cut through the material at various angles. If required, we'll tape the area in a way that conceals the joint compound.

Tape vs. Mesh

Because drywall mesh and tape don't hold themselves, joint compound is required to keep them attached to the wall. Generally, it comes down to personal preference, but occasionally, one will be superior to the other.

Depending on the project, we might decide to use drywall mesh rather than tape, or our team might choose to tape your drywall using a combination of fiberglass drywall tape and paper tape.

These aren’t the only two options: you can also fire tape drywall surfaces if you need added fire protection.
